And now we want to invite you to our HAPPY THURSDAYS’ events: free shop, public kitchen, screenings, bar open. Everything starts at 7 p.m., free shop is open from 3 p.m. Come and spend some time with us!
Also check the language school schedule, there are few changes and few more classes. All classes this Saturday are cancelled and also Italian classes are not going to happen next week. Sorry for that!
Hope to see as many of you later as possible!
A quick announcement, and I’m really sorry for the short notice, but there will be a meeting tomorrow at 7pm for those of you interested in filmmaking with a view to starting a regular workshop. If you’re interested in film, at every aspect: writing screenplays/documentaries, sound, lights, cameras, acting and post production, then your all welcome, whatever level you’re at.

There aren’t a lot of opportunities for budding filmmakers to meet like minded people and get films made but now you can. 195 is offering a free workshop to meet energetic people, get projects off the ground and skill share creativity to improve your filmmaking. So I hope to see as many of you tomorrow, Sunday the 6th of October at 7pm so we can get our feet of the ground.
Everyone woke up super enthusiastic this morning ready to start the day. Downstairs free shop area looks almost unrecognisable – its suddenly viable again how much space there really is. We’ve going to have a great area to do some workshops while we continue to work on the rest of the building.
The roof is almost done now, just another coat to waterproof it and we’ll be free of rain leaking in downstairs. We’ve been filling in the cracks and making sure we get every little one. It’ll help keep the building in the condition its in without falling into more damage. Seeing this place come together is getting more and more exciting. The hard work is starting to pay off with visible results.
Very very very soon we will be running some events and activities so keep posted 🙂
Don’t forget to get down to Made Possible By Squatting – an exhibition that celebrates how squatting has positively affected the lives of individuals and communities in London. Get down to 15 Dock street, E1 8JN. They have different activities on this week up to the 16th September. Don;’t miss it.

1st September – One year anniversary
On 1st September, it’ll be one year since the ban of residential squatting. Commercial buildings are still legal to squat and we can celebrate what we have here in the Elizabeth Fry building. To commemorate the ban, we will be having a one year birthday party – yaaay! We’ve been putting together an installation to share with everyone.
Join us for BBQ and music, our infamous bubble shows and a fantastic free shop. So come down on the 1st September from 2pm and join us for a great afternoon.
The Dalston Eastern curve is kindly donating compost to us and we have got the super fit people from the Good gym to run there and collect the compost to bring here share with our front garden. What an awesome way to work out as a team. On the same day we will be receiving a van full of bicycle parts so we can get the bike shop up and running, as well as lots of stuff for our free shop.
4th September – Open work day
We will be having an Open work day and everyone is invited to come along and help us make this space function.
What we will be doing on the 4th
- Gardening workshop We’ll be starting to plant seeds in the front garden and planning for winter vegetables.
- Making the place safe Repairing anything on the ground floor that may considered unsafe (so that we can begin having workshops inside)
- Painting and decorating (permitted we get the paint on time)
- General cleaning
- Cooking lots of food for everyone to share and eat
If you have your own tools, please bring them as we really don’t have that much. We will use this day to do as much as possible to have 195 up and running in the coming weeksPlease come and join us for a day of communal fun and productivity. . Get involved and show your support.
