Queer Cinema Tomorrow- Hedwig and the Angry Inch

Tomorrow Night we will be Showing Hedwig and the Angry Inch, an American musical comedy drama film about a fictional rock band fronted by an East German Transgender singer: Hansel Schmidt is an East German “slip of a girly boy” who loves rock music, and is stuck in East Berlin until she meets Luther Robinson, an American Soldier. Luther falls in love with Hansel and the two decide to marry. This plan will allow Hansel to leave communist East Germany for the capitalist West. However, in order to be married, the couple must consist of a man and a woman.

The film has a number of potentially triggering scenes, description of the nature in which scenes might be triggering can be found here http://triggerwarnings.wikia.com/wiki/Hedwig_and_the_Angry_Inch.

There will be food, tea and coffee by donation, all welcome.

Heaters Needed!!

Dear friends of 195 Mare Street!

The Winter is coming and really hard times are waiting for us in our open space. So if you have any heaters that you can share with us it would be amazing and everybody would be warm and happy!

Don't let us end up like this!

Don’t let us end up like this!

Thank you so much and see you at Mare Street.

We Have a New Home!

We have a new home on the internet. All the old features are still there but we have some exciting new ones too. The reason we decided to move home and get a new domain is because we wanted to keep the social centre going. It’s quite possible that we won’t be here forever and so thought it wise to have a more apt address. So, our new domain will be:

http://www.socialcentre.org.uk

The facebook and twitter will stay the same for now, so don’t worry about that. See you at our new home on the internet.

Happy Thursdays..

It’s Thursday again and we have another screening at 195. The screening of Injustice last night really got you thinking and so I wanted to continue that theme for tonight’s film.

It will be a really nice evening, as ever, and a good opportunity to meet new people and see a few old faces.

195 Queerlective Meeting

Calling all LGBTQ+++++, undefined, non normative, weirdos freaks and all others under the sun; this Friday (25th) at 6:30pm we will be having the first meeting of the 195 queerlective (like a collective but queer as f***). In short, a few of us queers who call this house home have decided we want to start putting on queer events/happenings/things; we’re not sure exactly what we want to do but so far ideas include queer film nights, a reading group, music stuff, and self defense and we want other people who might vaguely consider themselves represented by the queer definition to get involved. Friday will be a meeting to discuss ideas and plan for the future- regular meetings/events may follow, but we’ll let you know!!!!

Friday, 6:30Pm
See you there.
Free tea/coffee- bring nice things to share…..

Our art studio and darkroom are being built from scrap and every help is welcome. Today we are starting to clear the space on our basement that will give place to these. If you want to help us out just show up today with good working mood and let’s all make this happen! Also we will need some materials to start working, so if you have something around that can help it would be great. Every art materials are welcome:

- Paint
- Brushes
- Canvas
- Paper
- Pencils
- Enlarger and clock for the darkroom
- Clay
- Plus everything you can imagine that we can create with!!

One of the main use to our art studio is to keep an art collective together in collaboration for various art projects. If you like to work with other people and you want to share your skill and ideas and join our collective show up to our art collective meeting next Monday at 7pm.
